Vigorous variety, with early maturation. Susceptible to powdery mildew. Its wines are fruity and smooth. Produced in Bairrada but also in other regions where it is known by other names, “Castelão Nacional” in Ribatejo, “Mortágua de Vide Preta” in the Cartaxo area, “Mortágua” in the Arruda dos Vinhos area and “Negro Mouro” in Dão.
