THE GENESIS OF FRANCOS RESERVA
José Neiva Correia began working in 1974, invited by Eng. Octavio Pato one of the top Portuguese winemakers in the 60, 70 and 80’s.
In 2004 and to celebrate his 30 years of Oenology Mr. José Neiva presented three great wines. The CONSENSUS (Ribatejo DOC), the ESCADA (Douro DOC) and FRANCOS (Alenquer DOC).
A year later in 2005 he also presented the FRANCOS RESERVA (Alenquer DOC), produced and vinified at the Quinta de Porto Franco, in his family for generations.

Classic fermentation method with destemming and pre fermentative skin contact followed of the application of dry yeasts. Fermentation up to 30º C in the first 2/3, and lowering down to 20º C during the last 1/3. During the whole fermentative process, pumping over 2 times per day, using each time half of the volume contained in the vat. After the alcoholic fermentation, the cap is plunged for 30 days, and during that period, extraction of the gentle tannins is conducted, along with the malolactic fermentation and the natural stabilization of the wine.
Aged 15 months in French new oak barrels of 225Lt from Seguin Moreau. Aged in bottle for a minimum period of 12 months
It's a bright red, rich, full body, with a big structure and an harmonious balance between red fruits and the oak scents. In the tasting was smooth, intense, with a long, persistent and elegant finish.
A great wine for great events and top gastronomy. Excellent with ham from Chaves, Barrancos or Pata Negra, excellent complement of game meats, roasted red meats, stews and cured cheeses. Serve at 16 to 18ºC.
