The GENESIS OF CONSENSUS

José Neiva Correia began working in 1974, invited by Eng Octávio Pato the top of Portuguese winemakers in the 60, 70 and 80.

In 2004 and to celebrate its 30 years of Enology Mr. Neiva featured 3 great wines to celebrate. The Consensus (Ribatejo), the Escada (Douro) and Francos (Alenquer).

CONSENSUS

The CONSENSUS is a unique and special wine, made from the Touriga Nacional (50%), and Pinot Noir (50%).
The grapes of both varieties are produced and selected in the vineyards of the family of Mr. Neiva and thevinification is done in Quinta de Porto Franco in Alenquer DOC region, just 60 miles from downtown Lisbon.
Quinta de Porto Franco was the birthplace of Mr. José Neiva and is in his family to many generations.

From the first harvest of 2003, and after the harvest of 2006 that this wine is not consensual, with a single lot of grape varieties.

Vinification Method

Classic fermentation method with destemming and pre fermentative skin contact followed of the application of dry yeasts. Fermentation up to 30º C in the first 2/3, and lowering down to 20º C during the last 1/3. During the whole fermentative process, pumping over 2 times per day, using each time half of the volume contained in the vat. After the alcoholic fermentation, the cap is plunged for 30 days, and during that period, extraction of the gentle tannins is conducted, along with the malolactic fermentation and the natural stabilization of the wine.

Ageing

Wine is aged in Seguin Moreau French oak barrels of 225 Lt for 24 months. Ageing in bottle a minimum of 12 months after bottling.

Tasting Notes

Rich, vibrant and intense fruity red with juicy black fruit & spicy flavours. It’s a great wine, tasty, smooth and elegant with an intense and persistent finish. João Paulo Martins; Vinhos de Portugal 2016; "Tasted again in 2015. The ageing was 18 months in barrel and one year in bottle. It remains a red very gently and the grape varieties are very good and in perfect dialogue now with some aromas of liquor - Floral, elegant and original, is a very interesting red and able to provide good moments. This is a link between these grape varieties to explore. The set maintains a good gastronomic aptitude. Previous good harvests: 2006."
